Key Dates of influence in 2019 (give or take a week on either side of these dates): 1/13, 6/16, 9/21
Jupiter in Sagittarius takes a stand. Neptune in Pisces has compassion for everyone, seeing someone’s rough edges or questionable decisions or even outright violence as a cry for help. With Sagittarian energy, there is a clear right and wrong, and the values and morals that guide us serve as a compass to live by and aim for. These two dynamics are dancing with each other now and will continue to do so for the rest of 2019.
Jupiter aims to grow, enliven, and give us a shot in the arm of faith and optimism. It’s the part of us that wants to know more, to travel, to expand our horizons beyond our current perspective. With this energy we can also get rigid and zealous in our beliefs, decrying a passionate sense of right and wrong. No harm in taking a stand in something that you believe in. But when it comes at a cost of dismissing or labeling a group of people as bad, evil, and/or stupid, there’s a danger of losing track of our shared humanity and the complexity and nuance of being alive on the planet at this time. The fuel of righteous indignation has been behind many a violent act, both large and small. This is where Neptune enters the picture and has us focus on our shared vision and our connection to all that is. We’re being asked to dream a bigger dream for ourselves. And part of that process is surrendering and dissolving denial and the illusion of separateness.
The current political and cultural polarization is painful for us personally and collectively, no matter what side of the political aisle you find yourself on. Our souls suffer when we witness or personally experience cruelty and judgment. It makes us want to numb ourselves and escape to a different reality. My sense of this transit is that it will bring about a breaking point in this dynamic personally and collectively, so we can break through any escapism and righteous indignation that isn’t serving us, to focus on what we want to create versus what offends us. Consider that the healing antidote is a greater reverence and compassion for yourself and others. It can be addictive to share our opinions with the world, to fuel our exasperation about what we disagree with, anchoring our identity during a time that can feel chaotic and scary. But the thing is, that just adds logs to the fire of a reality that we are fast outgrowing and didn’t want to begin with. While it’s human to have the desire to punish those that hurt us or those we care about, if we get stuck there then we set ourselves back with festering anger and resentment. This transit is an opportunity to transmute this poison into medicine.
One way to think about taking the compassionate high road is increasing our sense of curiosity and our faith in ourselves. Our ideals and philosophy are shifting, and it will probably feel confusing at times. Staying curious in the moment and treating yourself the same way you want others to treat you are two strategies to help you stay fluid. When we enter into an interaction thinking that we are right and the other person is wrong, we immediately cut ourselves off from our compassion, not only for the other person but also for ourselves. This also impacts the level of creativity and curiosity we bring to the table. What if you came to the interaction with a willingness to be changed, knowing that any deep conversation with another will bring about a shift in your beliefs?
Part of the medicine of Neptune is that it pokes at any veils of illusion we have succumbed to which separate us from our true power. Think you aren’t good enough? Does everyone else have an anger problem except you? Thoughts like these are indications that our awareness is building to release limiting beliefs and claim the uncomfortable emotions that come with them. One practice to help with this is to write down a list of attitudes you find contemptible in others. Then, as you are able, recognize that the potential for each one of them is also inside of you. We may feel some disappointment and suffer humility in the process. That means we are right on track, and it’s an important step in our spiritual maturity. If you feel you are victim to a situation or trapped by it, you are now better able to see your own energetic patterns which ultimately liberate you to shift the dynamic.
